Learn to Compost

December 9, 2010
Maui Weekly

The average person throws out four pounds of garbage per day, but paper (junk mail and used office paper) is the most common item found in our trash, along with food waste and garden trimmings make great compost. Compost improves the soil’s ability to soak up water, helping to prevent rainwater erosion. Composting also decreases the need for fertilizers because it contains a bounty of the microorganisms that plants need for growth.

Worm composting will be introduced as well, and all your questions regarding the raising and harvesting of worm compost will be answered.
