“This is Minit Stop’s ninth year of supporting the Toys for Tots drive,” said Kim Robello, Minit Stop marketing manager. “It’s such a great feeling to watch those kids’ faces light up when they see the gifts. We’re honored and happy to be a part of this every year.”
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at any Minit Stop convenience store—nine locations on Maui and eight on the Big Island. Customers can also make a $1 or more donation by buying a Toy Train gift card at the store, which will even get their name up in lights. As always, 100 percent of the money collected will go toward the purchase of toys for Hawaii’s needy tots.
Last year, Minit Stop stores collected over 800 toys and donated $13,662 from the sale of Toy Train gift cards.
“If we collect at least one more toy or add $1 more dollar to our contributions every year, it becomes a realistic goal and our employees really get behind it,” said Robello. “So for 2010, the big mark is 801 toys and $13,663 for the keiki!”
Over the past nine years, Minit Stop’s Maui and Big Island customers, vendors and employees have donated over $50,000 for Toys for Tots and so many toys, “we’ve lost count.”
Minit Stop stores partners with the Hawaii chapter of Salvation Army and the U.S. Marine Corp to help purchase or collect toys to distribute to children in need on Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii Island.
