Rotary Club to ‘Tree-Cycle’ After Christmas

December 23, 2010
Maui Weekly
The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui will pick up undecorated Christmas trees in the Upcountry area on Saturday, Jan. 8, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. A minimum donation of $10 per tree is requested.

Maui County discontinued its Christmas tree drop-off site service, but for a small donation, Rotary club members will take them to the green waste area at the Central Maui Landfill, where they will be ground up for use as compost.

The volunteers will cover the Upcountry area including Pā‘ia, Ha‘ikū, Makawao, Pukalani and Kula.

“We intend to support Maui’s students as well as help the environment with the donations we receive through this eco-friendly project,” said Upcountry Rotary Community Service Director Melanie Stephens.

Proceeds from the “tree-cycling” event will help fund scholarships for Maui students, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp and other Upcountry Rotary Club projects.

Call Melanie at 573-9260 or Dick at 878-2177 to arrange for pickup.
