Foie gras production universally ranks as one of the cruelest forms of animal agriculture, and public outrage at the inhumane practices inherent in the foie gras industry has resulted in bans of the product in 11 European countries.
In the U.S., public awareness is rising rapidly, as seen in California, where former Gov. Schwarzenegger signed a bill into law that will ban the production and sale of foie gras in the state in 2012.
The hearing is Wednesday, Feb. 16, so please send your statement of support Sen. Josh Green (sengreen@Capitol.hawaii.gov) and Sen. Clarence Nishihara (sennishihara@Capitol.hawaii.gov) before that date and show that Hawai‘i is a leader in compassionate animal agriculture.
