Beginning promptly at 8 a.m., this year’s fun run will start and end at Green Banana Café, with a scenic course that stretches from the heart of Pā‘ia Town to Kanahā Beach Park in Kahului. At the finish line, awards will be given to the “Fastest Overall Male” and “Fastest Overall Female” finishers for both the 5 and 10K runs (no age division), and ribbons will be awarded to the top finishers in three separate age divisions for both the 5 and 10K race categories. And the fun doesn’t end there—all participants who finish the race will be rewarded with a refreshing shave ice from Green Banana Café’s Yogurt Bar and will also be eligible for several prize drawings during and after the awards ceremony.
Registration fees, in addition to pledges raised by fleet-footed fun run participants, will benefit Women Helping Women’s emergency shelter services and programs for victims of domestic violence. Women Helping Women is a unique provider of crisis intervention and support services for direct and indirect victims of domestic violence. The mission of the organization is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education and prevention, while offering safety, support and empowerment. Proceeds from the “Run Because You Want To, Not Because You Have To: 5 and 10K Fun Run for Domestic Violence” will help to keep this mission alive.
Women Helping Women will hold its third annual “Run Because You Want To, Not Because You Have To: 5 and 10K Fun Run for Domestic Violence” in Pā‘ia Town on Saturday, March 12.
