Movie previews not rated for children

Just recently my husband and I took our two children to see the latest kid movie at the local Kīhei theater. Our jaws dropped as we sat through preview after preview of movies for adults. We started wondering if we came into the wrong theater. We were one of many parents holding our hands over our children’s eyes through some of them. I am wondering who made this judgment call, and if they would allow their young children to sit through 20 minutes of R-rated movie previews? Next time, I think we will just wait until the movie comes out on DVD and watch it in the comfort of our own home.
