Join me and some jovial friends as we toast one of the island’s finest keiki organizations, the Kīhei Youth Center (KYC), on Monday evening, Sept. 12, at Ambrosia Martini Lounge’s “Cocktail for a Cause” event.

The South Maui lounge’s gracious owner, Candice Seti, has been serving up these charitable celebrations each Monday, donating a portion of the evening’s proceeds to various nonprofits across the isle, including Maui OnStage, Both Sides Now and the Maui Humane Society.

This Monday’s admirable party commends the noble efforts of KYC, a community-based nonprofit established in 1983 that serves as many as 500 youth per year between the ages of 8 and 17, and provides an “established community hub” with a range of structured recreational, educational and cultural programs.

“We serve as the bridge between school and home for the youth of Maui,” said Leslie R. Garcia, KYC’s administrative assistant and youth specialist. “As a new team member here, I have the privilege of experiencing the meaning and practice of ‘ohana through our daily quality programming, enabling us to encourage and inspire our youth as they grow and mature in our community.”

Ambrosia joins hands with the KYC ‘ohana with their Cocktail for a Cause concept, lending its spirited support on Sept. 12 by donating 15 percent of the night’s proceeds. Seti invites members to share information between 8 and 9 p.m. in Ambrosia’s relaxing atmosphere. “It’s a great chance for these groups to not only inform a new audience of donors, but to also socialize among friends and staff in honor of their cause,” she said.

The sweet and funky jazz sensations of duo Toby Couture and Ameila Nelson will delight beginning at 9 p.m. at Ambrosia Martini Lounge, located at 1913-H South Kīhei Road in the Kīhei Kalama Village, behind WokStar. Call (808) 891-1011 for further information.

Another way to support KYC is right around the corner—literally—as the youth organization is currently participating in Foodland’s Give Aloha Fundraiser. It’s easy! Upon making any purchase at Foodland, refer to the code “77637,” or simply tell the cashier you want to give some aloha to the Kīhei Youth Center.

Contact KYC via, and discover more ways you can help sustain their mission of “Children First... Today... Tomorrow... Forever.”
