I enjoyed Chris Mentzel's article "Hippie's Dreams;" however, it's not new news that the military and the Hippies find common agreement on the environment. There has been collaboration since the early '70s, when top military people took arduous meditation trainings and brought new insights into their ideology. Retired Col. Jim Channon currently puts a small town on Hawai'i Island on economic track with Permaculture's ecological principles. In nature, these odd symbioses exist, too. You never know where you will find rational allies.
