The 5th Annual Volunteer Expo, coordinated by the County of Maui Volunteer Center, is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center.
Mayor Alan Arakawa's representative will present a proclamation, designating Oct. 29 as Volunteer Day in Maui County.
This free event is open to the community with live entertainment. Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats, the Seabury Hall Hawaiian Ensemble and magician Timothy Wenk will provide lively entertainment for the noontime crowd, while Joe Hawkins, host of KONI radio's Maui Sunrise Show, will emcee and give away door prizes.
The expo will include fun and games! Attendees can play the "I Believe in Volunteerism" game, which is designed to educate the community on agencies with volunteer opportunities. A game card can be picked up on event day at the Volunteer Expo and HandsOn Maui exhibitor's booth. Browse the exhibits, play educational games and chat with 25 nonprofit agencies about the range of unique social, cultural and environmental volunteer projects available in Maui County.
Exhibitors activities include sustainable planting with Community Work Day and kids' Halloween crafts and lamp shade making with Habitat for Humanity. Watch a video on monkeys at the Pacific Primate Sanctuary booth, play a Wheel of Fortune-type game with Kaunoa Senior Center, The Price is Right with Keiki Kokua and more.
Completed "I Believe in Volunteerism" game cards will be used as door prize entries. The Grand Prize is truly grand-from the Grand Wailea-a one-night, ocean-view accommodation.
Additional prizes are from Hawaiian Island Land Trust: two tickets to a moonlight hike at Waihe'e Coastal Dunes & Wetlands Refuge on a Full Moon; Tour of the Stars, Hyatt Regency, Ruby's Restaurant gift certificate and more!
