The Maui News - Authorities say a federal agent has been charged in a fatal shooting at a McDonald's in Waikiki. Christopher Deedy, a special agent with the U.S. State Department, has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Bail was set at $250,000. Honolulu Police Lt. Dwight Rodrigues said the victim was identified as 23-year-old Kollin Elderts of Windward O'ahu.
The shooting came as security was ramped up in the area ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. It is still unclear whether Deedy was in Hawai'i for APEC. Rodrigues said Elderts suffered a single gunshot wound. It was also unclear whether the victim and the suspect knew one other.
