The Maui News - Six Maui attorneys are being considered to replace Rhonda Loo as a District Court judge in the Second Circuit. Loo was nominated and confirmed this year as a Circuit Court judge. The six nominees include Mimi DesJardins, Michelle L. Drewyer, Adrianne H. Heely, Adriel S.C. Menor, Richard A. Priest Jr. and Douglas J. Sameshima. Heely is a deputy in the county Department of the Corporation Counsel, and Menor is a deputy public defender.
The remaining candidates are attorneys in private practice who also serve as per diem, or part-time, District Court judges.
The six attorneys were selected by the Judicial Selection Commission, which presented the list to Hawai'i Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald. He announced last week that he is seeking written comments on the nominees no later than Tuesday, Dec. 6. Comments may be sent to Recktenwald at Supreme Court of Hawai'i, 417 S. King St., Honolulu, HI 96813. His fax number is (808) 539-4703, and his email is chief justice@ courts.hawaii.gov. The nominee selected by Recktenwald is subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
