Charismatic Native Hawaiian entertainer Willie Kahaiali'i (Willie K) returns to Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. with his popular holiday concert. You can be sure that this one will be filled like a Christmas stocking with old favorites and new arrangements. "Willie Wonderland" will share his love of opera, his huge voice and outstanding guitar talent with family and friends. Tickets for the Castle Theater show are selling for $12, $28 and $37.
Heritage Film Festival brings us the stories of indigenous people of Hawai'i and the Pacific, highlighting culture, history, arts and current affairs. On Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m., three short films about Kaho'olawe Island and its historic struggles will be shown in the McCoy Studio Theater. You'll see portrayals of the earliest days of the movement to stop the bombing of Kaho'olawe-scenes from the life of George Jarrett Helm Jr. as he worked tirelessly to stop the bombing and inspire others to take up the cause of Aloha 'Aina, and compelling footage dealing with the Protect Kaho'olawe 'Ohana's 1982 campaign to stop RIMPAC. Meet the talented people who help bring these stories to the public in a "Q&A" session after the screening. General admission is $10.
Maui Pops Orchestra and special guest Amy Hanaiali'i will perform your favorite holiday music, including many of Amy's most loved songs, in Holiday Pops! At 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 4, in the Castle Theater, Music Director James Durham will present an outstanding variety of music that Maui Pops Orchestra audiences have come to expect. As a special treat, children attending the concert are invited to a "Milk & Cookies" reception following the performance with special guest Santa Claus.
