Maui Forest Bird Recovery Program

Laura Berthold of the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project in Olinda will present the organization's research and programs at the Upcountry Sustainability meeting on Monday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the Pukalani Community Center's poolroom (across the street from Foodland, connected to the pool complex).

The presentation will include a brief overview of the natural history of Hawai'i, its conservation issues and the birds that are found on Maui. The latter part of the presentation will reveal the project's research results and explore its future efforts and goals.

"This presentation will feature some amazing photos and sounds of these special birds," said Upcountry Sustainability President Melanie Stephens.

Berthold is an ornithological researcher, who has worked with the project since 2009. She has a bachelor of science degree in environmental studies from Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois.
