Get in the holiday spirit with two very special shows at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC) on Thursday, Dec. 15-one in the Castle Theater and the other in the McCoy Studio Theater.
Three Grammy Award winners will make a rare concert appearance together in "Slack Key Masters" at the MACC: 2011 Best Hawaiian Music Album winners Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho, and George Kahumoku Jr., a multiple Grammy winner for Best Hawaiian Music Album.
In her first Maui concert, singer-actress Carrere (of "Wayne's World" fame) will perform contemporary Hawaiian tunes accompanied by Ho's slack key guitar and 'ukulele arrangements.
On Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011 Best Hawaiian Music Album winners Tia Carrere and Daniel Ho will take the McCoy Studio Theater stage with George Kahumoku Jr., a multiple Grammy winner for Best Hawaiian Music Album.
Kahumoku will open and host the show in the casual, living room-style setting of the McCoy Studio Theater. Tickets are $25 for standard and $45 for premium seating, which includes a talk-story session with the artists at 6:30 p.m.
New Grammy Award nominations have just been announced, which include Kahumoku's "Wao Akua - Forest of the Gods" for Best Album Regional Roots and Ho's "E Kahe Malie" for Best Album Pop Instrumental.
The season wouldn't be complete without a concert by Neil Sedaka, whose chart-topping hits and holiday favorites combine to create an extremely entertaining solo concert. In his 50 years of writing, performing and producing music, Neil has gifted the world with over 20 hit songs. He has inspired countless other musicians along the way, and has penned hits for such superstars as Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, The Monkees, The Carpenters, and The Captain and Tennille.
Among his many honors, Sedaka has been inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame, has had a street named after him in his hometown of Brooklyn, and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Reserved seats in the Castle Theater are $29.50, $39.50 and $49.50, with a limited number of premium seats at $65.
