The Maui News - Honolulu's Japanese Consul General Yoshihiko Kamo has recognized Maui County Managing Director Keith Regan for helping to bring about 100 victims of Japan's March 11 earthquake and tsunami to the Valley Isle for respite visits.
Mayor Alan Arakawa said he was proud that Regan led the Aloha Initiative to bring the Japanese families to Maui and O'ahu.
Kamo awarded Regan the Consul General's Certificate of Commendation.
The initiative is also offering scholarships for victims from Japan who want to study in Hawai'i.
