New Historic Town Signs Point the Way to Makawao

December 29, 2011
The Maui Weekly

Newly installed "Historic Town" signs now inform motorists that the quaint town of Makawao is just a few miles away, Councilmember Mike White announced last week.

The large, brown Historic Town signs placed along Haleakala Highway were recently installed by the State Department of Transportation in coordination with Councilmember White and Mayor Alan Arakawa and staff. The initial request was made by the Makawao Community Association.

"We are glad that Mike and his staff have worked so hard on this, which is why we requested their assistance from the beginning," Mayor Alan Arakawa said. "The county has taken great steps to ensure that the Makawao business community gets more exposure and this is just another good example of our efforts."

Councilmember Mike White represents Makawao, Ha'iku and Pa'ia, and serves as Chair of the Council's Economic Development, Agriculture and Recreation Committee.
