Air Australia is offering two new direct routes to Honolulu from Brisbane and Melbourne. Mike McCartney, president and CEO of the Hawai'i Tourism Authority, announced the new routes last week.
Current flights from Australia to Honolulu are routed through Sydney, which the agency says is a 90-minute flight from Brisbane and Melbourne. In a statement, McCartney said that the routes will be offered twice weekly, and the routes will offer Hawai'i a larger presence in Australia and boost the state's tourism industry. McCartney also said the flights are estimated to bring about $92 million in tourism dollars and $10 million in state tax revenues every year
