Rotary Club to ‘Tree-Cycle’ After Christmas

January 5, 2012
The Maui Weekly

The Rotary Club of Upcountry Maui will pick up undecorated Christmas trees in Kahului and the Upcountry area on Saturday, Jan. 7, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. A minimum donation of $10 per tree is requested. Call by Thursday, Jan. 5, to schedule a pickup.

Maui County discontinued its Christmas tree drop-off site service, but for a small donation, Rotary club members will take them to the green waste area at the Central Maui Landfill, where they will be ground up for use as compost.

The volunteers will cover the Upcountry area including Kahului, Pa'ia, Ha'iku, Makawao, Pukalani and Kula.

"We intend to support many great club projects with the donations we receive through this eco-friendly project, including providing scholarships for Upcountry students," said Upcountry Rotary Community Service Director Melanie Stephens.

Kahului, Kula, Pukalani and Makawao residents should call 573-9260; Pa'ia and Ha'iku residents should call 878-2177 to schedule pickups.
