Hawai'i 24/7 - Hawaiian Airlines recently announced plans to create a Maui hub to increase flights from Kahului to other islands and select locations on the West Coast. The move will increase service by 25 percent.
This will result in a statewide increase of 23 to 25 flights over the next two months. Half of these will be serving the Maui hub, including one-third to provide additional nonstop service from Maui to Hawai'i Island and Kaua'i.
The airline also plans to unveil nonstop service from Maui to Los Angeles in June. This will be the fifth city that Hawaiian provides nonstop service to from Maui. The other four are Seattle, Las Vegas, Oakland, and San Jose.
Hawaiian Airlines recently announced plans to create a Maui hub to increase flights from Kahului to other islands and select locations on the West Coast.
The new hub comes as a result of the recognition of Maui's visitor growth in recent years, along with its establishment as a major transit point between islands and the mainland.
"Hawaiian's expansion plan for Kahului Airport is good news for neighbor island residents and will make air travel between our islands easier while also increasing opportunities to showcase Maui as a visitor destination," said State Sen. J. Kalani English (Senate District 6-Maui).
