The Hawaiian Industries Charitable Foundation (HICF) is supporting Maui Memorial Medical Center's (MMMC) new Heart Brain & Vascular Center with a gift of $50,000. The total comes from two of HICF's subsidiaries-American Savings Bank ($15,000) and Maui Electric Company (MECO) ($35,000).
The new center will eliminate the need for Maui patients to travel to O'ahu for treatments such as angioplasty and open heart surgery.
"A strong healthcare facility is an essential component of a thriving community," said MECO President Ed Reinhardt. "With the recent addition of the Heart Brain & Vascular Center, MMMC is well-equipped to provide immediate care for Maui families right here at home. It's our privilege to contribute to something as important as the health and well-being of our community."
"A big mahalo to Hawaiian Electric Industries Charitable Foundation for their commitment to our community," said MMMC Foundation Executive Director Lani Correa. "As most Mauians have either had loved ones cared for at MMMC, or have been treated at MMMC themselves, HEI's gift will positively impact all of us for years to come."
