A father and his adult daughter recently expressed their extreme gratitude for the help they received from Habitat for Humanity and Lowe's. Twenty-two volunteers from both organizations installed a new shower and fixed the wooden lana'i on the Sved home last December.
Ignacio Sved, 80, was particularly happy about the new shower, as the only previous option was a makeshift outdoor unit, which was open to the elements and often muddy.
"He's really happy," said Abby Sved. "It was an answer to our prayers."
The project was a result of Lowe's Hammers for Heroes program, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by taking on various building projects.
"It's great to help veterans that needed some help," said Harry Sato, human resources manager at Lowe's in Kahului.
