For the Love of Maui 5K Fun Run, a new Valley Isle Road Runner (VIRR) event for 2012, will begin at 5 p.m. on Feb. 14, Valentine's Day, at Polo Beach Wailea. The community and visitors are all invited to participate in this benefit for the Kihei Youth Center and Hospice Maui.
Bring your sweetheart-or maybe meet a sweetheart!
The two-loop course will begin at Polo Beach (just south of the Fairmont Kea Lani), proceed south on Old Makena Road, turn left onto Wailea Alanui head back down to Polo Beach and repeat.
You just might spot a whale on this run, which will begin just before sunset.
To register for this event, go to the Valley Isle Road Runners Website at www.virr.com. Registration is $30 after Wednesday, Feb. 1, and $40 on race day (no shirt guarantee).
The race will include medals for age divisions, T-shirts and door prizes.
Packet pickup is at Monkeypod Kitchen in Wailea Center on Monday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
