Youth basketball has taken over Kihei! The Super Fryers and Fryers Divisions with seven teams each have been playing games at Kamali'i Elementary School for a couple weeks.
Thursday, Jan. 26, opened a third division made up of six Jr. Midget teams. The opening game saw the Aces edge the Bulls 12-11. Isaiah Chee led the way with four points. The Bulls' Joey Koch was the game's high scorer with six points.
The second game was another close one with the Flames topping the Eagles 20-18. Kama (last name not given) of the Flames and Kevin Cacho of the Eagles led their teams with eight points each.
The evening's final game saw the Heat top the Kihei Sharks 20-10 behind Johnny Magana's eight points.
Games are held at Kamali'i School or Kalama Park four nights a week (soon to be five).

Our Senior Softball League continues at the South Maui Community Park field. On Sunday, Jan. 22, led by Benito Alconcel going three-for-four at the plate, Fuego beat Maui 5-0 and 9-6. Bob Fondmiller also went three-for-four as Maui 5-0 handed Jus Enuff a second straight loss after six straight wins, 8-7.
Games are on Sundays at 3 and 4 p.m.
After the seniors warmed up the field, the new Co-ed League took over with three games. Nick Poree and Wendy Gusman combined for six hits and four RBIs as Nuts and Honey defeated Stella Blues 19-7.
Hobrahs took advantage of some walks and errors by scoring 11 runs in the first inning and coasted to a 12-2 win over Cove Park 'Ohana. Four homeruns, including two by Fausto Allosado, paced Pool Polos' 21-10 victory over the 808 Grinders.
Games are at 5:30, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday evenings.
