Take a stand against domestic violence--and have some healthy family fun in the process--at the fourth annual Women Helping Women 2, 5 and 10K Fun Run/Walk/Stroll on Saturday, March 10, beginning at 8 a.m. Runners, joggers, walkers and "strollers" of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the early morning event, which will feature music, refreshments, prize drawings and--most importantly--an opportunity to support a good cause.
Beginning promptly at 8 a.m., this year's fun run will start and end at the Women Helping Women ReVive Resale Boutique within the Old Kahului Shopping Center. The scenic 2, 5 and 10K courses will loop through Kanaha Beach Park behind the airport and end back at ReVive Boutique.
At the finish line, awards will be presented to the top three male and top three female finishers (no age divisions). Awards will also be given to the top three pledge raisers.
Runners, joggers, walkers and “strollers” of all ages and abilities are invited to take part in the fourth annual Women Helping Women Fun Run, which will feature music, refreshments, prize drawings and--most importantly--a healthy way to support a good cause.
And the fun doesn't end there--all participants who finish the race will be eligible for several prize drawings during an awards ceremony held outside of Revive Boutique. The finish line festivities will also include food, music, entertainment and a keiki luau show.
"We are so excited to welcome the entire family to our fun run this year," said Women Helping Women Executive Director Stacey Moniz. "We will have great prizes for runners in different race categories--and for people who raise the most pledges as well."
Registration fees, in addition to pledges raised by fleet-footed participants, will benefit Women Helping Women's emergency shelter services and programs for victims of domestic violence. Women Helping Women is a unique provider of crisis intervention and support services for direct and indirect victims of domestic violence. The mission of the organization is to end domestic violence through advocacy, education and prevention, while offering safety, support and empowerment. Proceeds from this year's fun run will help to keep this mission alive.
"Every fitness level can participate, and serious runners will have their times qualified through Valley Isle Road Runners," said Moniz. "Some of us will be walking the 5K, so don't feel like you have to be a long-distance runner to join us in supporting Maui's domestic violence shelter and support programs."
A new addition to this year's Fun Run is Stroller Strides Maui, a total fitness program for parents and babies that includes power walking or running with intervals of body toning using resistance bands.
"All in all, it will be a fabulous time," said Moniz. "We look forward to seeing you all there on Saturday, March 10."
All participants must register on or before Wednesday, Feb. 29, and race packets will be distributed beginning at 6 a.m. on the day of the event at the ReVive Resale Boutique, located in the Old Kahului Shopping Center (store number 65W).
