Bishop Museum, in conjunction with Kaunoa Senior Services, will host "'Ike Papale, The Living Legacy of Hawaiian Hats Discovery Day" on Friday, Feb. 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the senior center located at 401 Alakapa Place in Pa'ia.
The community is invited and encouraged to bring their Hawaiian woven materials for identification and documentation, and share personal and family stories related to Hawaiian weaving.
Stations will be set up to document stories through oral history interviews and to identify and document Hawaiian woven materials brought to the event.
A display on Hawaiian weaving will be exhibited with staff available to answer questions and speak on the subject.
Bishop Museum received a grant from the National Endowment of the Arts to support documentation and planning of a Hawaiian plaiting exhibition. Discovery Days for this project will be held on different islands with the first official event on Maui.
