It's not surprise that the Westminster Dog Show has banished pro-adoption ads from the airwaves during its broadcast (AP story).
The show's organizers would surely prefer that viewers forget about the millions of dogs that end up in our country's shelters every year--and the fact that Westminster and the dog-breeding industry it props up are directly responsible for many of them.
Every time someone buys a dog from a breeder (as Westminster directly encourages viewers to do), a lovable, friendly, healthy pup waiting behind bars in a shelter loses its chance at adoption and will be killed.
Many of the puppies breeders churn out in hopes of winning show titles will also go on to have litters of their own, bringing even more dogs into a world that doesn't have enough homes for those who already exist.
Don't be fooled. Animals in shelters die because of the greedy breeding industry. Please don't support it--save a life and make a loyal friend instead, by adopting a dog or cat from your local animal shelter. To learn more, visit www.PETA.org.
