The Maui News - The family of a 26-year-old man who was murdered during incarceration in Arizona is suing the state and company that runs the prison. The family alleges that the prison failed to protect the man while he was being held at the prison.
Bronson Nunuha sustained more than 140 stab wounds before succumbing to death on Feb. 18, 2010. The wounds were inflicted by other prisoners at Saguaro Correctional Facility in Eloy. The lawsuit was filed last Wednesday in 1st Circuit Court in Honolulu. Defendants listed were the State of Arizona and Corrections Corporations of America.
"Bronson's death was senseless and preventable," said the Nunuha family's attorney, Kenneth Walczak. "The officials who failed to prevent that death and who violated the safety rules designed to protect him must be held accountable."
Walczak also represents the Human Rights Defense Center and the ACLU of Hawai'i.
