Kula man arrested for impersonating a federal officer

March 1, 2012
The Maui Weekly

The Maui Police Department is looking for help in finding more information about a man they currently have in custody. Abraham Kantzabedian, 53, of Kula was arrested last week and charged with false impersonation of an officer of the U.S.

Kantzabedian contacted a Maui Police Department detective in December 2011 claiming to be a special agent with the U.S. Department of Treasury. He is reported to have been in possession of an official government identification card and was driving what appeared to be a law enforcement vehicle. He also had a canine that he claimed was trained to attack, and in bomb and drug detection.

Kantzabedian approached the same detective in January, raising suspicion that caused the officer to open an investigation into his claims. The case was later processed by both members of the MPD and the U.S. Secret Service. Kantzabedian was arrested and charged with both impersonating a law enforcement officer and false impersonation of a U.S. officer.

Anyone who may have more information about the suspect is asked to call MPD's Criminal Investigation Division at (808) 244-6425.
