ABC News - Maui mother Amy Strand was forced to publicly pump breast milk in order to be able to pass through security at an airport in Lihue.
"I'm in a dress, in heels, and I find myself in front of a sink and mirrors with travelers coming in and out of the bathroom," Strand said. "I'm standing at the sink with my breast hanging out, pumping. I wanted to cry. I was humiliated."
Strand, a 38-year-old mother of four, regularly flies inter-island for work. This is the first time she has been stopped for taking a breast pump onboard a plane. She was stopped last week prior to boarding her plane back to Maui and taken aside for a search of her carry-on baggage.
The agent told Strand that she would need to fill the empty bottles that she had been carrying before boarding the plane. When she requested an area to fill the bottles, she was pointed towards the public bathroom, where she was forced to pump next to the only outlet in the facility, directly in front of the mirrors.
