On Saturday, March 17, the Maui Canoe and Kayak Club (MCKC) will host its first Paddle Demo Day in Kahului Harbor at the Hawaiian Canoe Club.
"The free Paddling Demo Day is a way to give back to our community and provide an opportunity for individuals to try a variety of watercrafts at one location." said Stacie Thorlakson, MCKC board president.
"With keiki on spring break, we hope many will join the festivities and try an OC-1, surfski, prone or stand-up paddle board." she said. "This would be a great opportunity to get involved, learn the sport of paddling and inspire kids!"
The Maui Canoe and Kayak Club will host its first Paddle Demo Day in Kahului Harbor at the Hawaiian Canoe Club on Saturday, March 17.
As MCKC continues to grow so do its race divisions--particularly Novice and Junior OC-1, Standup Paddling (SUP) and Surfskis.
"It is wonderful to see the sport of paddling continue to expand, as it is our aim to encourage and promote environmental awareness and physical fitness through competitive ocean sports," said Thorlakson.
MCKC not only perpetuates a healthy outdoor lifestyle, but also encourages people of all ages to get involved in the camaraderie and positive social interaction associated with competitive paddle sports.
In addition, MCKC will offer a lesson on water safety.
"It is very important to respect the ocean and learn to read the waves when entering and exiting the water, plus, learn how to get back on your canoe when you huli!" Thorlakson added.
MCKC will provide a light lunch for paddling participants and an awards ceremony.
If you have questions or wish to lend your watercraft for the three hours, contact MCKC at firstname.lastname@example.org.
"With the luck of the Irish, it will be a successful community day!" said Thorlakson.
