Annually, my brother, myself and our wives take a vacation together. This year, we chose to spend 10 days on Maui, where we had a fabulous vacation. That is, until the afternoon of the day prior to our departure. At about 4 p.m. on Feb. 24, I suffered a heart attack.
From that point on, I learned just how great the residents of Maui are. From the ambulance crew who drove me to the Maui Memorial Medical Center, the ER personnel, the cardiac team led by Dr. Lee, the staff of the CCU and the cardiac unit, the care could not have been better.
I am very thankful that Maui has such an outstanding facility for the care of heart patients such as myself. It is a testament to the people and the government of the county that such a facility exists, and that there is no need to be transported to another location for treatment.
During my stay in the hospital, I received care from a staff who shows their dedication and pride in this facility. I was also tended to by students from the university nursing program and their instructors. This experience also shows the dedication of the staff to continue to maintain and improve the care that is provided locally. I believe that this training program will help to insure the continued quality care provided by MMMC.
Again, thanks to all those providing this excellent service.
