Maui Electric Company congratulates the winners of the Energy & Environment Awards at the recent Maui Schools' Science & Engineering Fair. Winning the Intermediate Division was Keoni Lee from Doris Todd School in Pa'ia for his project entitled "Catch the Wind." Taking home the High School Division award were Tamra Takemoto and Anna Gragas from King Kekaulike High School for their "Biomass to Biogas" project.
MECO sponsors the Maui Schools' Science & Engineering Fair - Energy and Environment Award each year in an effort to encourage and recognize students who demonstrate high achievement in science and engineering. A $100 savings bond is presented to the student or team in each of the two divisions that has successfully researched and presented a project focused on energy or caring for our environment.
"These students are Hawai'i's science and engineering future," said MECO Renewable Energy Manager Mat McNeff. "MECO firmly believes in cultivating and encouraging events like the Maui Science Fair to ensure a clean energy future for our kids and for generations to come."
