Maui March Madness!

A wild time for a good cause.

March 22, 2012
Debra Lordan , The Maui Weekly

Even better than a basketball tournament, it's Maui March Madness! Four of the nine Rotary Clubs on Maui and Mulligan's On The Blue will present their second annual fundraiser for local community and international Rotary projects on Saturday, March 31, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Mulligan's On The Blue in Wailea.

Event proceeds will go toward student scholarships and a variety of community programs supported by the Rotary Clubs of Kihei Sunrise, Kihei-Wailea, Valley Isle Sunset and Upcountry.

Jimmy Mac & the Kool Kats will keep the dance floor packed all night. From funk and Motown, Buffett and the Beach Boys, disco, swing and ballads to just a lot of good old rock and roll, they play the music audiences love. This local band has dazzled Maui for many years with non-stop music and exciting crowd involvement.

Rotarians (left to right) Ed Corbett, Fred and Mardi Plomp, and Judy Gray party down in their crazy hats at last year’s premier event. The annual event is a fun fundraiser for Rotary International’s local community and international projects.

"Jimmy Mac & the Kool Kats have been supporting the Rotary clubs of Maui since we started the band 26 years ago," said Jimmy. "The Rotary clubs of Maui, as well as Rotary clubs around the world, have helped their communities when no one else would. I invite all my friends to come out on Saturday, March 31, to support such a great organization--and to have some fun as well!"

Throughout the evening, drink and dine while "Kale the Magnificent" mingles among the "madding crowd," entertaining guests with is his mind-numbing magic tricks.

You will flip out on Mulligan's divine heavy pupu selection, which includes the pub's famous Shepherd's Pie, and go bananas at the pub's no-host bar throughout the evening while you explore the silent and live auction comprised of the best Maui has to offer at ridiculously reasonable prices.

Go ahead and go bonkers--it's all for a great cause! Mulligan's On The Blue owner Mike O'Dwyer will serve as the official auctioneer--if he's not 'round the bend

Live and silent auction items will include astonishing artwork from Maui Hands and paintings by renowned Maui artists, such as Dario Campanile, Elan Vital, Wanda Russell and Curtis Cost. Gorgeous jewelry from Jer Diamonds & Fine Jewelry includes a black Tahitian pearl pendant with a 14-carat white gold chain and .39-carat diamond. Dazzling!

Bidders will also vie for Classic Charters and Pacific Whale Foundation excursions; a sporty, 50cc moped scooter from South Maui Motors; a two-night stay at Ka'anapali Beach Hotel; a two-night, three-day stay at Lumeria Maui spa in Makawao; certificates to some of Maui's most elegant eateries, such as Mama's Fish House, and much, much more!

But wait! Hold onto your hats! Enter the Crazy Hat Contest for a chance to win "onolicious" prizes!

The Rotary Clubs of Maui invite everyone to participate in the second annual Maui March Madness fundraiser. Don't miss out on the wildest time you can (legally) have in the State of Hawai'i.

The Rotary clubs offer a special mahalo to the event's corporate sponsors: Akimeka, FIM Group, Hawai'i USA Federal Credit Union and The Maui News.

Tickets are $50. Visit www.kiheirotary.org to purchase tickets or call Ed Corbett at 264-3468.
