The following letter was sent to the Maui Humane Society regarding the deadly incident on my property on March 14:
Dear Mr. Matt Minford,
This is a follow-up on my report and conversation with you today in regard to the two pit bulls that came to my yard at about 6 p.m. when I was out closing the gate in my driveway. All of a sudden, these two big pit bulls came running and started chasing and attacking my cats. My poor hen with her chicks, about ready to go to sleep, were attacked and killed.
As I told you, this dog owner is very irresponsible and not obeying the so-called leash law and is just taking it for granted. So, for the safety of their neighbors, I hope that you can locate the owners of these pit bulls.
My front-side neighbor tried calling you, but was told that the police have to be notified first, which I did two or three times. But none showed up until after maybe two or three hours passed. These police are very inefficient when we call for help. Even in life-or-death cases, they don't show up as quickly as possible to help and protect us.
Well, I just hope that it will not happen any more. This is the third attack on my pets.
Please have these irresponsible owners reprimanded in accordance with this leash law.
