In response to Sally Raisbeck's commentary encouraging businesses not to advertise on Rush Limbaugh's show ("Ask Maui Businesses Not to Support Rush Limbaugh," last week's commentary), I'd like to thank her for bringing the issue to light, but also remind her that the issue is broader than Rush. A couple of months earlier, Ed Schultz called Laura Ingram a "slut" on his radio show. Laura Ingram is a Dartmouth graduate, former Supreme Court clerk, adoptive single mother, breast cancer survivor and unabashed conservative. Clearly, there is no cause to use sexually demeaning language because you disagree with someone's political views. That's why I'm sure you will use the same level of energy in cajoling Ed's advertisers, both on the radio and on MSNBC. I have no reason to believe that you are a hypocrite or are "outraged" simply because you don't like Rush's political views. I'm sure you are intellectually honest enough to go after Mr. Schultz with the same righteous indignation with which you pursue Rush in your quest to "keep Maui beautiful."
