Pukalani’s Kooy building goes solar

April 5, 2012
The Maui Weekly

HNU Energy has installed a new photovoltaic system on the Kooy building in Pukalani. The building, located at 7 Aewa Place in Pukalani, is home to Serpico's Pizza and KilaKila Employer Services, among other businesses.

The 80-module system supplies the building with 20 kilowatts of power. "We are big believers in supporting other Maui-based companies," said building owner Rob Kooy. "We have been helping HNU Energy with a variety of employer services for years, and it was only natural that we turned to them for our renewable energy needs. As a businessman, I have been very impressed with HNU Energy's professionalism throughout the entire process."

"Our practice is to search for the most efficient and appropriate technology for each of our custom installations," said Dan O'Connell, HNU Energy CEO.

HNU Energy custom-designed a storm-resistant racking system by raising the panels to the parapet level, while transferring all the new system's weight directly to the building's foundation.
