This month's Kihei Community Association (KCA) meeting on Tuesday, April 17, will examine the proposed Maui Island Plan now being considered by the Maui County Council Planning Committee.
The General Plan Advisory Committee (GPAC) shaped the plan over several years with public input from numerous meetings all over the island.
A presentation by GPAC member and Faith Action for Community Equality (FACE) representative Kehau Filimoeatu will offer a perspective of the plan for South Maui.
In addition Chris Hart, whose company developed the original plan before modifications by county government, will also participate in the discussion, along with County Councilman Don Couch, Maui County Planning Director Will Spence and Senior Long Term Planner John Summers.
"The community will also be active participants in the discussion," said KCA Vice President Mike Moran, "by voicing their concerns about growth boundaries, areas that should be preserved and infrastructure needs."
KCA meeting attendees are asked to bring donations for the Maui Food Bank.
"While volume was down last month, you're encouraged to overtake our record January donation at this meeting," Moran said. "We ask you to remember that there are keiki going to bed hungry here on Maui."
The meeting will be held at the Kihei Charter Middle School, 41 E. Lipoa St. in Kihei. Doors open at 6 p.m. for pupu and talk story; the meeting will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
