Here are the results of another great week in sports in South Maui.
Youth Basketball League - Midgets
As reported last week, our basketball Midgets division held their end-of-season playoffs at the Old Wailuku Gym on Saturday, March 31. But the first game of the day between the bottom two seeded teams was by far the most exciting of the tournament!

The KYC Bobcats and the Hawks needed an overtime period to decide the game with the Hawks coming out on top 32-31 for their first win of the season. Jason Arrocena led the way with nine points, followed by Jayven Domingo, who scored six. The Bobcats were led by Christian Gonsalves-Ino's 13 points, and Dylan Browning's nine.
Next, the Blazers and Jaguars played another tight game, with the Blazers holding on for a 28-27 win. Manix Benjamin had 13 points and Bryan Rodriguez had four for the Blazers, while Ian Abreu's eight points, and Rebecca Reily's five paced the Jaguars.
Game three of the day was between the undefeated Kihei Boys and the Hawks. The Boys jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, ending the Hawks' season 28-15. Mark Ranchez scored 10 points, and Tristan Nichols scored eight for Kihei Boys. The Hawks were led by Kristen Jones' five points.
The fourth game was between Elite and the Blazers with Elite coming out on top 41-27. Christian Jenkins topped Elite with 10 points, and Jaxon Naiditch tallied eight. Manix Benjamin was tops again for the Blazers with nine points.
The championship game was between Kihei Boys and Elite. Kihei led from the start, winning 40-30 to claim the 2012 Midgets title with an unblemished 10-0 record. Clarence Daguio was top scorer for the Boys with 11 points; Tristan Nichols added seven. Christian Jenkins once again led Elite, scoring 11 points, with Maka Mossman adding five.
Co-ed Softball League
Coed softball continued at South Maui Community Park with three games on Sunday, April 1. Nuts & Honey's topped Cove Park 'Ohana 15-3, Hobrahs overwhelmed the 808 Grinders 16-4, and Pool Polo overpowered Stella Blues 18-4. The coed season wraps up with a one-day tournament on Sunday, April 29.
Adult Coed Sand Volleyball League
We're looking to start a summer Adult Coed Sand Volleyball League at Kalama Park. If anyone is interested in helping organize, please call me at 879-4533.
