April 19, 2012
The Maui Weekly

Maui County officials reported that county rescue workers were dispatched to mile marker 37 on Honoapi'ilani Highway on Thursday, April 12, to aide two injured hikers in what is commonly known as the Three Sisters or Chutes and Ladders area. A 30-year-old visitor from Flagstaff, Arizona, had fallen close to 50 feet from the side of the mountain and landed on her 21-year-old friend. She sustained minor injuries and was airlifted to the landing zone, treated on the scene and released.

The 21-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, sustained possible head and neck injuries. As a result, she was immobilized and transported to the hospital via ambulance. The severity of her injuries has not been reported.
