Hali'imaile General Store was recently recognized with a Silver Award for Best Hawai'i Regional Cuisine at the 2012 'Aipono Awards Gala, which was held at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Ka'anapali. This marks the 11th time the restaurant has won either silver or gold in the category since 2004.
The restaurant has also been recognized for best dessert and most innovative menu in the past. 'Ai pono is Hawaiian for "excellence in food." The competition, sponsored by No Ka 'Oi Magazine, recognizes the best in Maui culinary endeavors. Winners are selected by a jury of the magazine's readers.
The 2012 gala was the largest to date, with 300 members of the industry in attendance. Money raised benefits the Maui Culinary Academy and students attending the program at University of Hawai'i Maui College.
