Award-winning Maui photojournalist Matthew Thayer has released his historical action adventure ebook titled "30,000 B.C. Chronicles: Bordeaux."

Time travelers from the dried-out, overpopulated year 2233 are shipwrecked on a European continent that is a sea of green--a sensory overload of natural beauty. The characters--strong women, brave men, despicable villains--rise to meet the many challenges of the ancient world. The memories they share of home, and the scarred Earth they left behind, paint an intriguing picture of mankind's future.

With most of their modern equipment dissolving into dust, the survivors join Cro-Magnon clans to survive. Life with the nomads teaches that man's basic needs, his desire for companionship and comfort, the fear of death and other issues all transcend time. Trouble begins when one of the crewmembers introduces advanced warfare and his warped brand of religion to his Cro-Magnon clan.

While the style of his writing makes it a fun and exciting read, Thayer also explores weighty issues such as personal and group ethics, man's impact on the environment and the dangers of those who abuse religion to gain power.

Thayer has been with The Maui News for 32 years, first as a sports writer and currently as chief photographer. During that time, he has earned more than 50 state and national awards for writing and photography. He is also a longtime Kihei soccer coach and AYSO board member.

The self-published book is the first ebook in his series; "Tuscany" is set for release this fall. "Bordeaux" is currently available exclusively on Amazon Kindle.
