Maui's newest venue for contemporary art, The Maui Art Hale located at 95 Lipoa Street in South Maui Center, celebrated its grand opening on Saturday, May 26.
Gallery Director Kenneth Norris has assembled a collection of contemporary and eclectic work ranging from painting and photography to mixed-media and sculpture.
Norris said that plans are underway to host a series of events in coming months incorporating jazz performance, spoken word and other art forms with a goal of establishing The Maui Art Hale as a center for the island's contemporary art and artists.
An East meets West theme of mixed-media and paintings by Kim Mosley; the photographic series “Journeys in the Indonesian Archipelago” by Tony Novak-Clifford; the abstract series “ORGANIC” by Maui playright, actor and painter Pat Matsumoto; new mixed-media work by emerging artist Travis Joers; paintings by Erin Dieguez; and alabaster sculpture by Craig Gardner are currently on exhibit at The Maui Art Hale in Kihei.
The Maui Art Hale is open every Tuesday through Saturday from 2 until 10 p.m. For more information, contact Norris at (808) 344-1298.
