On May 29 at approximately 10:57 p.m., a father brought his 4-year-old son into Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment after being found unresponsive within the shower of their residence. Initial examination by emergency room doctors revealed the child victim had sustained severe blunt force trauma to his internal organs and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. The father, a 31-year-old Wailuku resident, and his 27-year-old live-in girlfriend both denied having any knowledge of how the victim sustained his injuries. Both were charged with murder in the second degree on May 31. The investigation is still ongoing. The boy's mother reportedly lives on O'ahu.
