Maui OnStage is proud to present the Maui premiere of Mel Brooks' award-winning musical comedy, The Producers, from July 6 to 29 at the Historic 'Iao Theater in Wailuku. The Broadway mega-hit earned a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards in 2001 and is based on the Academy Award-winning 1968 film (also written and directed by Brooks).
Set in New York City in 1959, The Producers is the tale of a meek accountant, Leo Bloom, and a has-been, cash-strapped producer, Max Bialystock, who was once known as the "King of Broadway."
On a routine visit to audit Max's books, Leo suggests that, "under the right circumstances, one could make more money with a flop than a hit." Seeing an opportunity to con his investors, Max sets out to produce the worst show ever: Springtime For Hitler: A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva in Bertechesgaden, written by Franz Liebkind, an ex-Nazi in hiding. Joining their scheme is Swedish bombshell Ulla Inga Hansen Benson Yansen Tallen Hallen Svaden Swanson, as their receptionist.
Maui OnStage performers (left to right) Michael Pulliam, Laura Cole and Steven Dascoulias will star in Mel Brooks’ award-winning musical, The Producers, opening Friday, July 6, at the Historic ‘Iao Theater.
Will Ulla and the boys make it to Rio with the millions they plan to embezzle--or will they wind up as "Prisoners of Love" at Sing Sing?
The hilarious musical production will feature a stellar cast of 32 talented musical theater performers, including Steven Dascoulias as Max, Michael Pulliam as Leo, Dale Button as Franz Liebkind and Maui newcomer Laura Cole as Ulla. Additional cast members include Mark Bolden, Charles Cook, Dylan Bode, Ellen Peterson, Felicia Chernicki, Francis Tau'a, Kalani Whitford and Jason Wolf.
You can catch a glimpse of The Producers at the Historic 'Iao Theater in Wailuku from July 6 to 29, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and on Sundays at 3 p.m.
