Maui Economic Opportunity Inc. (MEO) was the recipient of a $3,600 grant from the Friends of Hawai'i Charities Inc. to support its Community Services Department-Senior Club Coordinator program.
MEO provides support to 55 senior clubs throughout Maui County. Monthly meetings are held at MEO to offer club presidents an opportunity to obtain information of interest to seniors, share information with one another and take that information back to their more than 1,700 members. MEO employs three part-time staff to support this effort.
MEO is a private nonprofit Community Action Agency. Its mission is to strengthen the community while helping people in need restore their hope, reach their potential, and enrich their lives.
"MEO is very fortunate to receive this funding" said Lyn McNeff, MEO chief executive officer.
The Friends of Hawai'i Charities, the event host for the Sony Open in Hawai'i, was formed in 1998 with the purpose of raising funds for Hawai'i charities. Through a partnership with the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation Inc., the organization has distributed over $12 million to nonprofits in need.
