The Maui Weekly

The Hui No'eau Visual Art Center in Makawao will hold a free Family Day: A Community Celebration of the Arts!, an annual summer festival celebrating the Youth Art Exhibition, on Saturday, July 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

All are welcome to come and enjoy hands-on workshops, kite flying, face painting, scavenger hunt, art vendors and more as we join our community in admiring the work of young artists aged 5 to 18.

Featuring pieces from every child and teen participating in summer programming, the hui gallery will be transformed into an interactive space for exploration and discovery while the professional artist studios and main house will be buzzing with activity for all to visit, learn and play.

The Hui No‘eau Visual Art Center in Makawao will hold a free Family Day: A Community Celebration of the Arts!, an annual summer festival celebrating the Youth Art Exhibition, on Saturday, July 28.

Take a walking tour of the historic estate of Kaluanui, create a work of art in the children's studio with teaching artist Karolyn Buck, pack a picnic and cozy blanket and plan to spend the day. Check out the Affordable Art Sale, courtyard artist vendors, ceramic seconds and much more.

"Our summer Camp Kaluanui students have been looking forward to this all summer," said Executive Director Caroline Killhour. "They've taken themes like "WWPD: What Would Picasso Do?" and "Jammin the Jam is Through: Art Inspired by Music" and created some truly beautiful, whimsical, fantastical results. We can't wait to share them with the community and offer up our congratulations with this event."

The arts center, located at 2841 Baldwin Ave. below Makawao, is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. Call 572-6560 or visit huinoeau.com for more information.
