Whale Trust has welcomed Terri Marino to its staff as director of development and outreach. Marino brings to Whale Trust a wealth of experience in nonprofit management, fundraising, marketing and public relations. Prior to moving to Maui, Marino worked as a financial officer at J.P. Morgan and served as the executive director of Habitat for Humanity in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. During that time, she completed the Executive Education Program at Harvard Business School and received her Certificate in Fundraising Management at Indiana University.
"I am excited to join an organization so committed to both whale research and education," said Marino. "Along with its own research, Whale Trust consistently supports the permitted research of others working in Maui and actively seeks opportunities to engage local high school, college and graduate students in its work. For example, Lahainaluna High School high school students are currently analyzing DNA from skin samples to help researchers determine the sex of individual whales off Maui, saving researchers time and money while teaching science in a meaningful way to kids. Whale Trust is clearly inspiring the next generation to continue efforts to learn about and protect these magnificent creatures, and I am thrilled to have an opportunity to contribute."
