Halperin active in South Maui community

August 9, 2012
Nadine (Nai‘a) Newlight - Ha‘iku , The Maui Weekly

Attention, residents of South Maui! The upcoming primary election will determine who will be nominated by the Democratic Party to run against the current Republican (read: ineffective) representative.

You have your choice from among four contenders; however, only three of them have probably been known to you before this election cycle, as they all have actual records of residing in and engaging with the South Maui community.

Two of them have even done substantial community and environmental work in the district. But, only one of these candidates has recently done active work for the people, organizations and businesses of South Maui--Netra Halperin.

Netra has worked tirelessly, including two stints at the Legislature, researching and advocating for relevant issues such as the Kihei High School, the ice epidemic and the foreclosure tsunami. Also, many of you have met her face-to-face at your front door!

Netra is endorsed by the Hawai'i Women's Political Caucus, the Maui Progressive PAC, the Patsy T. Mink Progressive PAC and EMILY's List. She is 100 percent dedicated to the welfare of South Maui and has what it will take to bring the 11th District back into the Democratic column.

Please remember to vote on Saturday, Aug. 11, or by absentee ballot, and make that vote count. Vote for Netra Halperin, your best choice for effective representation.
