The Maui AIDS Foundation (MAF) has announced a new primary care/HIV specialist available on Maui to help people with HIV/AIDS lead happier, healthier lives.
Beginning last month, Dr. Timothy Duerler teamed with MAF to offer medical care services by appointment every Thursday at the MAF's Wailuku office, 1935 Main St., Ste. 101.
"This move is part of the MAF's commitment to improving client health and reducing the chances of HIV transmission," said John Gilarski, MAF director of client services. "Prevention and care work together in a symbiotic relationship. We are able to counsel clients and connect them to medical care within minutes following diagnosis. Dr. Duerler's addition to the Maui healthcare community gives people living with HIV/AIDS greater alternatives when reviewing their options for treatment."
Dr. Duerler accepts all patients with HMSA, Medicare, MedQuest and those who are underinsured or uninsured, thanks to Ryan White funds (Ryan White funds are restricted to MAF clients only). VA and Kaiser Permanente are not covered.
To schedule an appointment with Dr. Duerler, call Mango Medical at 1 (808) 769-5010.
Dr. Duerler has been providing comprehensive primary care and HIV specialist services in Hawai'i since 2005, both on O'ahu and Hawai'i Island. He practiced comprehensive primary care for several years prior to starting his own medical practice, Mango Medical, in September 2011. Dr. Duerler is certified as an HIV specialist by the American Academy of HIV Medicine after receiving additional training in Honolulu, San Francisco and Seattle.
