A composting and vermicomposting workshop will be held on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the MOA center in Kahului.
The average person throws out four pounds of garbage per day--mostly paper (junk mail and used office paper). Composting organic material like paper and food garbage along with garden trimmings makes great compost.
Adding compost to your soil benefits the environment. The improved ability of the soil to soak up water helps to prevent soil erosion caused by rainwater, and there will be no more need for fertilizers, as the microorganisms that plants need for growth are plentiful in compost.
